60 Years of Citizenship
170 people from more than 40 countries became Australian citizens in ceremonies across the country on Thursday 9 July, as the nation celebrated Constitution Day, the birthday of Australia's government.
Citizenship legislation change 2008
The Australian Citizenship Act 2007 has been amended to provide that to be eligible for citizenship under certain subsections, a person must be a permanent resident at the time of the application and at the time of the Minister’s decision on their application.
Citizenship Test
From 1 October 2007, applicants for Australian citizenship will need to pass an Australian citizenship test. Citizenship applicants will need to study a booklet produced by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship.
